Organization Project: Junk Cabinet

One of the downsides to having twice as many kitchen cabinets in our new home is that I can get away with storing lots of junk and random stuff in them. (Actually, who am I kidding? There is no downside to having lots of kitchen cabinets . . . I just need to get organized.)
I've decided my junk looks slightly less unattractive in black and white. Missing from photo: tons of lightbulbs.

Meet the "Junk Cupboard." Previous occupants include:

  • A set of flatware we never use (waiting for the mythical yard sale)
  • A basket of cabinet handles and assorted tools to install said handles
  • A box full of tape (left behind by previous owner)
  • An insane number of dog treats and toys and flea/tick/heartworm meds
  • Random dishes
  • Battery chargers for cameras
There were also these gems: an unopened fabric shaver (what on earth did I buy it for??) and my "time capsoul" (glorified chocolate box full of trinkets) from when I was maybe 7-ish?
We inherited a boat load of light bulbs and assorted ziploc bags/plastic wrap/foil/etc from the previous owners.
This box of tape does not belong in the kitchen cabinet. Time to relocate!
When I cannot see things in my cupboards, I have a bad habit of buying duplicates or even triplicates. It explains why we have so many containers of iced tea mix, panko bread crumbs, and dog treats.
AFTER:
This cupboard now holds:
  • a downsized collection of dog treats and meds, (the toys went to live in the "dog toy basket" in the living room)
  • My pie plates
  • Dishes I use for photos
  • Serving platters
  • Basket of cabinet hardware (temporary)
Junk Cabinet = no longer a junk cabinet.
